Virgil Mewes Obituary Virgil Mewes, 69, of Warsaw, passed away at 12:03 PM Thursday, December 14, 2023. Virgil was born February 15, 1954, the son of Hugh and Maxine (Hardy) Mewes in Keokuk, Iowa. He married Lois Thurman and they had one son, Cheyenne. Virgil was an excellent tattoo artist often designing his own art. He had also worked as a superintendent overseeing large construction projects. He was a skilled woodworker, but his greatest joy was spending time on his Harley with his knees in the breeze. Virgil is survived by his son, Cheyenne Mewes, of Wapello, Iowa; a grandson, Braden Mewes of Wapello; two sisters, Melodie "Mel" McCandless of Quincy and Maude (Bob) Martin of Warsaw; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Mewes; his mother and stepfather, Ralph and Maxine Grunewald; and two brothers, Hughie and Tracy Mewes.
