Obituary

William “Bill” Stottlemyer, 77, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.

Bill was born on September 21, 1948, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Elmer Stottlemyer. On March 20, 1975, he was united in marriage to Sonja Ann Dietrich in Carthage, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2021.

Bill was self-employed pouring concrete, working construction, re-finishing furniture and selling antiques. His life was an endless treasure hunt, scouring yard sales and flea markets for hidden gems, searching the great outdoors for arrowheads and using his metal detector. Bill also shared a love for Elvis with his wife Sonja.

Bill is survived by two daughters: Carrie Lyn Stottlemyer (John Egley) and Denise Steenberg, both of Keokuk; two sons from a previous marriage; five grandchildren: Anthony Conard of Florida, Destinee (David) Degen of Fort Madison, Jocee Helenthal of Keokuk, Taylor Bottger of Cedar Rapids and Noah Egley of Cedar Rapids; and three great-grandchildren: Kinzley Murphy and Emma Degen, both of Fort Madison, and Leo Walton of Keokuk.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sonja, his mother-figures Marie Hall and Floss Jobe, his mother-in-law Betty, his son-in-law Marty Helenthal and his brother-in-law Larry Dietrich.

A visitation celebrating the lives of Bill and Sonja will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 pm at DeJong-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Memorials may be directed to the family for expenses.
