Anna Mae Mitchell, 88, of Carthage, passed away at 3:23 A.M. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Anna Mae was born February 28, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Duffy) Vance in rural Carthage. She attended Union Douglas grade school and later graduated from Carthage High School in 1948. On July 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to E. LaVerne Mitchell in the front yard of her parent’s house in rural Carthage. He preceded her in death in 2017. In 1949 she graduated from Gem City Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician in her home while also being a devoted mother. She was a member of the Bentley Saddle Club, Mississippi Valley square dance club, Jolly Janes 4-H and the Harmony Home Extension Club.
Anna Mae is survived by three daughters, Joann (Gerald) Kilgore of Milliken, CO, June (Garry) Richardson of Carthage and Janet Mitchell of Anderson, SC; eleven grandchildren, Simone (Rich) Sheppard, Becky (Dan) White, Eric Funkenbush, Cassie (Josh) Blackett, Stephanie (James) Lutter, Stacie (Mark) Thomas, Sam (Angelina) Hardy, Sonia Richardson, Ronda (Dan) Johnson, Donna (Rodney) Rhodes and Brett (Heather) Moore; twenty three great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, LaVerne; a daughter Joyce Funkenbush; son-in-law, Steve Hardy; a grandson, Scott Bergman; one sister, Marguarette Coulter; and a brother, Glen Vance.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Harmony Township Cemetery near Bentley. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00.
