Carl Hartweg Obituary

Carl A. Hartweg, 97, of Carthage and Hamilton, passed away on Saturday, November 12, in Golden, Illinois.

Mr. Hartweg was born on November 14, 1924, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to George Frederick and Ida Louise (Ammer) Hartweg. The family moved to Illinois in 1929, and Carl lived in the Hamilton and Carthage area for the remainder of his life. He graduated from Colusa High School in 1942. He married Marilyn Johnson in 1947 in Carthage, Illinois.  Marilyn passed away in 1990.  In 1991, Carl married Helen Coeur who died in 2012. Carl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had taught Sunday School, served on the church council and was involved in many other church activities. Carl was a well-known farmer and participated in many farm organizations throughout Hancock County and the state of Illinois. He was a member of Hancock County Farm Bureau, Illinois Polled Hereford Association, Hancock County Historical Society, National FFA Alumnus Association, National Rifle Association, Memorial Hospital Association, and Hancock County Nursing Home Association. Carl was named Illinois Outstanding Commercial Beef Producer of the Year in 1990. He also served as a 4-H Club leader and was an avid farm toy collector. Carl worked with Federal Crop Insurance for 20 years, first as a salesman and later as Area Claims representative for the state of Illinois.

Surviving are six children: Paul Hartweg, David (Judy) Hartweg, Stephen (Barbara) Hartweg, Ann (Kent) Terry of Marseilles, John (Linda) Hartweg, Kathy (Gerald) James of Sutter; Helen’s children, Candace (Randall) Reyff, Richard (Barbara) Coeur, and Robert Coeur; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald, his wife, Marilyn, and his wife, Helen. In March of 2020, Carl moved to Hickory Grove Assisted Living in Carthage, and enjoyed his time there very much. He moved to Good Shepherd Home in Golden on October 4, 2022. Carl was a kind, honest, caring and generous Christian man and was always ready to help out someone who needed a helping hand. Carl loved to talk, was friendly and outgoing, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. The family appreciates the care and kindness shown to Carl by the staff and administration of Hickory Grove Assisted Living Center in Carthage, Good Shepherd Nursing Home of Golden and Blessing Hospice.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.  Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hickory Grove Assisted Living, or Blessing Hospice.   Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
