Charles Burnett Obituary

Charlie Burnett passed away on November 24, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy IL.

Charlie was born on September 21, 1955, to Mark and Mamie Burnett in Keokuk, Iowa.

He went to school in Warsaw IL. He was always a hard worker, as a kid he worked for the local farmers to make money. He worked several different jobs but the one he loved the most was Alliance Patterns. Even as a young man he loved kids.  Some of his best times was coaching little league with his older brother Floyd.  After that he went on to coach his daughter’s softball team. He would light up when he talked about that. He was loved by many for always being so willing to jump in and help anyone. He loved doing the food pantry at church. Everyone loved his crazy sense of humor. He could always make you laugh in the hardest times. He loved woodworking, after he retired, it became his “fun” job. He made some beautiful rocking horses which he loved doing. On June 26, 1998, he married Mary Burnett at the First Baptist Church in Hamilton IL. She survives.

He belongs to Calvary Foursquare Church in Keokuk IA. Pastor Dan quickly became a dear friend and “Brother” to Charlie. When Charlie became ill, he would always visit him in the hospital and when he would come home, Pastor would come every Friday with a cup of coffee. Pastor retired and that was hard for Charlie. He finally realized that though Pastor was retired, he didn’t lose him as a friend and confidante. Pastor Adam was becoming very dear to him after he realized he was not losing his connection with Pastor Dan.

Charlie is survived by his wife Mary, of Hamilton; sons, Ben (Julie), Scott (Billie); a daughter – Barby (Kollin); grandchildren – Josh (Brooke), Beth (Chris), Benny (Alley), Katelyn, Ashley (Bo), Andrew (Serenity) and Draven Jones; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hayleigh, J.D., Izzy and Brenlee; three sisters, one brother; and honorary brothers Doug Horner and Mark Menn.

“The Best of the Best” Charlie would say. Always there if he needed them. No questions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Floyd and Ron, sisters Jackie and Ruby.
