Dannie Kirby Obituary

Dannie Ross Kirby, 88, of Hamilton, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Montebello Healthcare Center in Hamilton.

Dannie was born on September 9, 1931, in Loda, Illinois, the son of Cecil Owen and Audie Mabel (Jacobs) Kirby. On November 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley I. Kirby in Paxton, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2008.

A member of Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk and later First Baptist Church in Hamilton, Dannie had a strong love for his Lord and Savior and loved to share his faith. He worked for Northern Illinois Gas Company (Nicor) for over 35 years until his retirement. When he wasn’t working, Dannie enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was working in his shop, where he would create beautiful and useful items out of wood and metal. He was also mechanically inclined, and could fix or make just about anything. Dannie will always be remembered for his strong faith and his great love for his family.

Dannie is survived by two daughters: Twyla (Craig) Stephens and Jayna (Michael) McMillen, both of Warsaw, Illinois; his son Scott (Laurie) Kirby of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother Owen Kirby of Savoy, Illinois; and two sisters-in-law: Faye Kirby of Paxton, Illinois, and Barbara Kirby of Plymouth, Indiana. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dannie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley; his daughter Debra Thurman Byrn; three brothers: Laurence, Everett and David; and two sisters: Leona Fairley and Doris Fredrickson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9 to 11 am directly before the service.
