Deloris J. "Dee" McBride

Deloris J. “Dee” McBride, 83, of Carthage, passed away at 5:45 AM Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Sunset Home in Quincy.

Deloris was born January 13, 1937, the daughter of Ward and Betty (Clark) Markley in Keokuk, Iowa.  She graduated from Carthage High School and then went on the Beauty School in Burlington, Iowa.  Dee worked for many years as a waitress at the local restaurants the Grubsteak Inn and the Town House. Waitressing was where her fun and outgoing personality really shined. She made lifelong friendships with her employers, and her many customers over the years. She later worked at Methode Electronics and Memorial Hospital in the dietary department where she retired.    In earlier years she was a Girl Scout Troup Leader. She was also an avid bowler and bowled on several league teams with her friends.  She enjoyed Sprint car racing, watching football, and fishing. She loved to be outside working in her garden and tending to her flower beds. She loved all animals, especially her dog Tilly May.   She loved being a Grandma. She had a very special bond with both of her grandchildren and was especially proud to be a new great grandma.  Family time was very precious to her and countless hours were spent playing board games, cards, and the family favorite “Marbles” which was played on a homemade marble board.  Dee was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage and had served as a deacon for many years.

Deloris is survived by her children, Mark Ellefritz of Mediapolis, Iowa and Debbi (Heath) Marmion of Basco; grandchildren, Dru (Emily) Hand and Deverie (Josh Troutman) Fecht; a great grandson, Ezra Hand; a half-brother, Gary (Carol) Markley of Des Moines, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Trish Markley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; and two half-brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Markley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday morning, January 8, 2021, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Harmony Township Cemetery near Bentley.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Carthage.  A memorial fund has been established.
