Eric Lee Speer

Eric Lee Speer, 53, of Basco, passed away at St. Johns Hospital on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Springfield, IL.

Eric was born on April 17, 1970, the son of David Speer of Basco, IL and Sharon Speer (Mahe) of Carthage, IL. He was united in marriage to Tasha Speer of Basco, IL for 25 years and then divorced. They have two kids who survive him. He was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1988. Eric was a farmer and a beef producer for most of his life. Anyone that knew Eric, knew that he was an avid hunter, fisher, and gun collector. He enjoyed talking about his hunting and fishing memories with anyone that would listen. In addition, he loved to tell stories from the past such as tractor pulling with the old John Deere 6030 “The Rattlesnake” or his wild stories from when he was younger. He didn’t consider a vacation, a vacation, unless it involved going on a fishing trip or taking time for the outdoors. He took pleasure in building and fixing things with his hands. He loved anything that got him outside and kept him busy.

He is survived by his parents, David and Sharon Speer of Carthage, IL; his two children, Morgan (Austin) McDonald of Augusta, IL and Logan (Emma Carmien) Speer of Basco, IL; his brother, Aaron (Denise) Speer of Basco, IL; his grandchildren, RayLee and Royce McDonald; his nephews, Cole (Lara Pence) Speer of Carthage, IL and Caleb Speer of Basco, IL; and his companion, Le’Ticia Danelle Jordan of Carthage, IL.

He is preceded in death by Leland and Vernitha Speer, and maternal grandparents, Orville and Helga Mahe.

A private family ceremony will happen at a later date. A Celebration of Life will take place on August 12, 2023, at 4 pm at The Office in Basco, IL. Memorial contributions can be made out to the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Printy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
