Noel Eugene “Gene” “Stoney” Stoneking, 83, of Carthage, passed away at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
Gene was born August 13, 1938, the son of Irvin and Sadie (Wilson) Stoneking in Carthage Township. He graduated from Carthage High School and was a lifelong construction worker. He was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage. Gene was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and had an uncanny ability to remember dates and events.
He is survived by a son, Gregg (Nancy) Gillaspy, of Edina, Missouri; grandchildren, Keenan, Kellen and Tanner Gillaspy; step-grandson, Ryan Deatherage; siblings, Arlene Clayton of Macomb, Darlene Oyer of Macomb, Robert Stoneking of Waukegan and Larry (Janet) Stoneking of Joliet; sister-in-law, Marsha Stoneking of Plymouth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Mike and Kenny Stoneking.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the Bushnell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Everly House in Macomb. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
