Genelle Bishop Royer, 85, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, surrounded by friends at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Genelle was born August 5th, 1937, the daughter of Eugene Bishop and Vanden Bishop (Hale). During her childhood, her family moved around quite a bit, so she was homeschooled until she started taking classes through American High School which was done through the mail at the time. Genelle went on to attend Evangel College in Springfield, MO and received her bachelors in education. She then went on to receive her Masters in teaching and taught business education for many years. On December 7th, 1974 she was united in marriage to William Royer in Hanna City, IL. Genelle had a strong passion for horses and horsemanship. She was a member of the Great River Classical Horsemanship and a founding member of Centerline Dressage.
Genelle is survived by her brother; Stephen (Annette) Bishop of Choctaw, OK; her step-son, Jim (Jan) Royer of Springfield, IL; her nieces and nephews, Amber (Steven) Austin and Nathanael Bishop; her great friends, Susan (Bill) Graham of Glenarm, IL, Tara Whitnah of Keokuk, IA, and Vicki Ludolph of Nauvoo, IL; her caretaker, Fran Gordon of Colchester, IL; and her very special friends that she thought of as family, Bryan and Elizabeth Scheetz and their children Annabelle, James, Marybeth, Emma, Alex, Charlie and Lucy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Royer; her stepson, Dwight Royer, and her stepdaughter, Judy Clossey.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 19th, 2023, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery just outside Hamilton. A visitation will be held that morning at 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made out to the Nauvoo Fire Protection District. Printy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
