Gilbert Eugene "Gib" Duffy

Gilbert Eugene “Gib” Duffy, 67, of Carthage, passed away at 12:00 PM, Friday, December 31, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Gib was born August 30, 1954, the son of Gilbert Benjamin and Violet (Shepler) Duffy, in La Harpe, Illinois.  He attended Carthage High School.  On September 21, 1974, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage.  He had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance Department for 31 years retiring in 2019.  He loved hunting, camping and traveling with Barbara on their Harley Davidson, going yearly to the Sturgis festival.  Gib was an avid collector of guns, coins and toy tractors and loved auctions of any kind.  He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Gib is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Duffy, of Carthage; two sons, Travis (Jennifer) Duffy of Basco and Brigham (Ruby) Duffy of Carthage; four grandchildren, Tegan, Ryder, Maverick and Bernadette; siblings, Gilbert Duffy, Jr. of Ferris, Barbara Lynn Duffy of Ferris, Robert (Gail) Duffy of Colchester, Roger Duffy of Macomb, Richard (Stacie) Duffy of Carthage and Lisa Duffy of Colchester.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Hospital.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
