Hazle Ruth Kern, 101, of Carthage passed away at 9:37 AM Saturday morning, February 8, 2020, at the Montebello Care Center in Hamilton.
Hazle was born December 7, 1918, the daughter of George Aaron and Ruth (Frounfelter) Wells near Stronghurst, Illinois in Henderson County. In 1938 she was united in marriage to Charles Foster Lovell. He preceded her in death. On January 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Howard Joseph Kern in Carthage, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1999. Hazle had farmed twenty-two years with Charles and Howard. She then started a new career at Memorial Hospital in Carthage as a nurse’s aide for nine years. In 1965 she began working at Shellor-Globe in Keokuk retiring in 1983. Hazle enjoyed fishing, travel and reading.
Hazle is survived by her daughter, Debra (Melvin) Moore of Carthage; two granddaughters, Ruth (Lovell) Reuther and Kathy Doyle; nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two children, Janet Lovell and Charles “Butch” Lovell; one brother and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 17th, 2020 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Private inurnment will be held in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
