James Dale “Sonny” Cole, 70, of Carthage, passed away at 8:44 PM Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Sonny was born June 12, 1951, the son of Robert Henry and Evelyn (Smith) Cole in Iowa City, Iowa. On September 14, 2002, he was united in marriage to Linda Hershberger in Frytown, Iowa.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Linda Cole, of Carthage; daughter, Gretchen McMann of Columbus, Ohio; stepson, Tony Haley of Corsicana, Texas; siblings, Deb Davis of Wellman, Iowa, Sandy Cole of Coralville, Iowa, Steven Cole of North Liberty, Iowa, Michelle Browing of Elkhart, Indiana and Julie Hangartner of Osseo, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert H. Cole; and a sister, Tracy Nelson.

Private family services will be held. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
