James Gasperi Obituary

James Michael “Mike” Gasperi, 80, of Carthage, passed away at 8:15 A.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Montebello Manor Care Center in Hamilton.

Mike was born August 9, 1938, the son of Clarence Michael and Clara Laverna “Nellie” (Rowland) Gasperi in Monmouth, Illinois.  He attended Carthage Community High School graduating in 1956.  On May 5, 1962, he was united in marriage to Betty Miller and they later divorced in 1969.  On November 24, 1976, he was united in marriage to Donna Renshaw.  She preceded him in death.  Mike was a member of Carpenter’s Local #237 in East Peoria.  He worked as a construction superintendent all over the world including, Venezuela, Mexico, China, Japan and Russia to name a few.  He was a member of the Carthage Eagles Club.  He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1961. 

Mike is survived by four daughters, Elaine (Mike) Askins of Manito, Illinois, Michele (Gary) Karlowicz of McHenry, Illinois, Linda (Vicente) Lopez of Carthage and Celeste (Terry) Sullivan of St. Charles, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jeff (Lori) Sullivan, Leslie (Adam) Jones, Meghan (Larry) Grom, Devon Vance, Chance Briggs, and Dallas Askins; four great grandchildren; a sister, Linda (Terry) Gustaveson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two brothers, Larry (Kay) Gasperi of Washington, Illinois and Richard (Jim) Gasperi of New Orleans, LA; four nieces, Kim Ellefritz, Julie Paschon, Jeanna Van Der Wal and Carolyn Walling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; step-mother, Dorothy Gasperi; two step-sons, Scott and Todd Renshaw and a nephew, Jon Gasperi.

 

Military Rites will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2019 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard and the Hancock County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at 4:00 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Carthage Eagle’s Club.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
