James "Tom" T. Gregory

James T. “Tom” Gregory, 76, of Hamilton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Tom was born on July 2, 1944, on the family farm in rural Alexandria, Missouri, the son of Albert Leroy and Marguerite (Mayer) Gregory. He graduated from Kahoka High School in 1962. On April 8, 1972, he was united in marriage to Sheila K. Belton in Carthage, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2007. He was later united in marriage to Sherry Lynn Mayer on May 21, 2019, in Carthage, Illinois. She survives.

Tom was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for over forty years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing and gardening, and he was well-known for his Veggie Mart. He was also an avid card player, and created a singles card group, playing Hand and Foot and Euchre. Tom also enjoyed playing Bingo and attending races with his grandson, Dylan. Tom could often be found eating and fellowshipping with his church friends at McDonalds. Tom was a member of Lighthouse Worship Center in Hamilton, and his faith shone through in every aspect of his life. He was constantly sharing the gospel with everyone he met, and lived out his faith by example every day. Tom’s faith was the cornerstone of his life.

Tom is survived by his wife Sherry Lynn Gregory of Hamilton; three sons: August “Dion” Gregory of Hamilton, Illinois, James “Todd” (Sue) Gregory of Cypress, Texas,  and Richard “Dick” Lee Gregory of Clinton, Iowa; three brothers: Gary (Joan) Gregory of Hamilton, Jerry (Joni) Gregory of Springfield, Missouri, and Kevin (Lori) Gregory of Montrose, Iowa; four step-children: Trista Mayer, Rachal Starr, Dallaz Starr and Camiryn Starr, all of Keokuk; seven grandchildren: Jared (Kathleen) Gregory, Dylan Gregory, Justin (Trista) Gregory, Sophia Gregory, Colby Gregory, Trent Gregory and Jillian Gregory; two step-grandchildren: Rhiannon and Rhaidyn Wilson; and two great-grandchildren: Parker and Maggie Gregory. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donnie and his sister Patty.

Tom’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 12 pm (Noon) on Monday, November 9, 2020, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, Illinois. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 9 am to 12 pm, with family meeting friends from 10 am to noon. For the safety of those attending, masks and social distancing are highly recommended.
