Jay Booth, 88, of Hamilton, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Jay was born August 11, 1931 in Raceland, Kentucky, the son of Garland and Lillian (Haney) Booth. On July 19, 1956 he was united in marriage to Alice (Leeds) Booth in Macomb, Illinois. Jay served in the United States Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. and Past Commander in Macomb. Jay was an excellent steel guitar player. He started playing guitar when he was 8 years old and has performed with many bands over the years and also the CBS Sunday morning TV Show, “Possum Holler Opry” in the 1960’s.
Jay is survived by his wife, Alice, of Hamilton; five daughters, Vanessa Countryman of St. Francisville, Missouri, Vivian (Tim) Harris of Carthage, Illinois, Virginia Henson of Keokuk, Iowa, Valerie (Todd) Keister of St. Francisville, Missouri, and Vanetta Johnson of Alexandria, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Trevor (Skyler) Harris, Brandon Henson, Shannon Henson, Casey Henson, Kelsey Henson, Meranda Geissler, Josh Laffoon, Jess Booth, and Travis Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Trace, Tucker, Gavin, Maverick, and Oakley; a sister, Corrine Gilbert of Buford, Georgia; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Settles and Evelyn Clark, both of Hamilton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Father & Mother- in- law, Lloyd & Agnes Leeds; two grandchildren, Tyler Harris and Lori Henson; and two sisters, Helen Porter and Marietha Keyser.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M Monday, March 16, 2020, at the Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M, Sunday evening at the Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jay Booth. Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
