Larry Lee Hasten, 71, of Keokuk, formerly of Carthage, passed away at 10:05 PM Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital after a lifetime battle with diabetes complications.
Larry was born the son of Tressler and Goldie (Hoover) Hasten in Carthage, Illinois, on January 29, 1950. On July 24, 1996, he married the light of his life, Joan Eheler.
Larry is survived by three sisters, Esther Cott of Crystal Lake, Bonnie (Kenneth) Watkins of Bowen and Debra Robinson of Keokuk; one brother, Bryant (Cheryl) Hasten of Carthage; a brother-in-law, Paul Fahnstrom of Carthage; and many, many nieces and nephews, including Alec and Abby Farmer who held a special place in his life in his final years.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Joan; his parents; an infant sister, Donna Fay; two brothers, Bruce and Garry Hasten; a sister, Mary Fahnstrom; and a brother-in-law, Robert Cott.
Larry was a lifetime Navy man based out of San Diego. After retirement he and Joan settled in Chula Vista, California. He worked as a security guard and spent many days playing bingo and the slot machines. After Joan’s death, he settled in Keokuk living his life because of the special care of his sister Debra. Larry loved fishing, tinkering with (but not necessarily fixing) cars, giving his cats way too many treats and complaining.
Private family services will be held. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
