Larry Ray Johnson, 73, of Hamilton, formerly of Carthage, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at his home.
Larry was born March 2, 1949, the son of Robert and Eloise (Trautwein) Johnson, Sr. in Pittsfield, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Janet Ruffcorn. They later divorced but remained close through the years. Larry had worked for Ramply’s TBA Tires, Batteries and Accessories for over 20 years, he also worked for Fruehauf’s, and also delivered the Quincy Herald Whig newspaper for over 30 years. Larry coached softball for the Denver summer league, and even after coaching Larry seldom missed a game. Larry was an avid sports fan, whether it be the cheering on the local high school to a championship, the Cardinals to the World Series, or a grandchild hitting a teeball for the first time, Larry was always there to cheer them on. He was a Nascar super fan and proud member of the Mississippi Rat Pack car club, and enjoyed showing his trophy winning ‘57 Chevy at car shows or while just cruising around town in-between a morning of pickup walnuts and visiting family and friends.
Larry is survived by his children, Melissa (Roy) Washburn of Hamilton; Jody (Dawn) Johnson of Hamilton, Jason Johnson of Hamilton, Angel Thompson of Hamilton, and Dale Johnson of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Brittany (Billy) Steil, Andrew (Mackenzie) Washburn, Caleb (Alexis) Washburn, Miley Washburn, Jaden (Delaney) Washburn, Emily Mayes, Harley Johnson, Colton Johnson, Taylor Thompson and Aiden Thompson; great grandchildren, Adasyn, Crosby and Hudson Steil and Rowan Washburn; siblings, Joan (“Speedy”) Moffitt of Pittsfield, Brenda Campbell and Barb (Mike) Foster, both of Barry and Robert (Jenny) Johnson of Denver; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents; a sister, Sandra Seckman; and a niece, Lisa Seckman; and mother-in-law, Gertie Ruffcorn.
