Larry Frederick Nelson, 72, of Warsaw, passed away in the care of his family in his home on July 29, 2023, at 2:48 PM.
Larry was born April 4th, 1951, the son of Albert and Lela (Martin) Nelson in Peoria, Illinois. Having one sister, Helen (Richard) Groves of Nashville, TN. Larry struggled many years with M.S. and he also had cancer and several other life-threatening situations. Some of his grandchildren called him the Superman of the family.
Larry married Kathleen Hoskins on September 9th, 1972, and together they had five children of their own: Dawn Nelson of Warsaw, Larry (Aimee) Nelson of Warsaw, Tina (Eric Higley) Nelson of Camp Point, Coreena (Brian) Corvaia of Alexandria, Missouri and Kimberly Nelson of Warsaw. He also had many grandchildren he loved to spend time with which included Kelcy, Wyatt, Cohl, Michelle, Stephanie, Sean, Jordan, Robert, Kaylee, Jasmine, Selaha, Cassie, Christina, John, Ryan, Anthony, Justice, Lathan, Caulin, Laine, Greg, Kathy, Ainsley and Nicholas; seventeen great grandchildren; beloved dog, Max; and an honorary son, Mark (Sarah) Rening of Keokuk.
Larry was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Augusta High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 until his Honorable Discharge. He had worked at Steel Castings, Wick's Saloon and then Decker Manufacturing where he retired in 2005. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and boating. He also enjoyed playing cards, joking around, watching TV and of course spending time with his family and friends. Larry’s friendly personality and quirky sense of humor will be dearly missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 14th, 2023, at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw with burial to follow in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday evening, August 13th at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw. Memorials may be directed to the Sutter Salem Bible Church. Printy Funeral Home of Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.
