Laura Carle Obituary

Laura Ann Carle, 86, of Carthage, passed away at 9:26 PM Sunday evening, September 12, 2021, at her home.

Laura Ann was born September 26, 1934, the daughter of Lyle and Clarice (Duncan) Scott in Carthage, Illinois.  She graduated from Carthage High School in 1952 and later that year was united in marriage to Clifton Carle on August 17.  He preceded her in death.  Laura Ann drove a school bus, had worked at Royalty’s Clothing, Newell Motors and for several years at Schulz Accounting.  She was an active member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage.  She was an avid golfer winning fourteen Carthage Golf Course Club Championships.  She had also scored 3 holes-in-one, taught junior golf classes in Carthage and one of her highlights was going to see Tiger Woods play.  She also enjoyed bowling and her Bridge Club.  Laura Ann was well known for her beautiful handwriting and artistic skills and was responsible for many, many homecoming and 4th of July parade signs over the years.  As a young woman she had been accepted into the Chicago Art Institute but had declined in favor of marrying.  She was a very early member of the Hancock County Saddle Club and loved horses.  Laura Ann could always be found at her 10:00 AM coffee club meeting at Hardees and her humor was never found lacking.

Laura Ann is survived by her children, Kim (Galen) Krieg, Pam (Joe) Dion and Scott (Terri) Carle, all of Carthage; life-long family friend, Amy Graham; nine grandchildren, April (Jason) Lemley, Erin (Ryan) Biery, Cole (Ashley) Krieg, Casey (Katy) Krieg, Laurie (Nate) Lorton, Joey (Abby) Dion, Brooke (Kevin) Blanton, Clifton (Kassie) Carle and Justin (Krista) Carle; thirty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifton; daughter, Jan; two brothers, Keith and Jim Scott; and a sister, Sandy Ellefritz.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, September 18, 2021, at the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage at 11:00 A.M. with burial at a later date.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 at the church Saturday morning.  Memorials may be directed to the Carthage Golf Course, Carthage Clipper Fire Department or Blessing Hospice.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
