Lawrence “Larry” Thomas Rupert, 68, of Carthage, passed away September 23, 2022 at Prairie City Rehab and Health Care in Prairie City, Illinois.
Larry was born July 1, 1954 in Syracuse, New York to Herbert and Beverly (Dudley) Rupert, the second of four children. Larry graduated from South Seneca Central School in Ovid, New York with the class of 1972. He was a National Merit Scholar (with the highest scores in Seneca county) and was set to attend Cornell University, but instead elected to enlist in the United States Air Force. After serving for four years, Larry worked several odd jobs before moving to Keokuk, Iowa in the late 1970s.
Shortly after relocating to the tri-state area, Larry started working at Methode Electronics, where he remained employed for 42 years until his retirement in 2021. He started as an engineer, and later built and managed the reliability lab, managed Magnetoelastic Devices, Incorporated (a subdivision of Methode), and was working as the director of intellectual property at the time of his retirement. Larry was united in marriage to Laura Minor in 1992. She survives.
Besides his wife, Laura, he is survived by his daughter, Lindsay (Landon) Mohler of Hannibal, Missouri; one grandson, Oliver, and two step-granddaughters, Audrey and Marilyn, all of Hannibal; one sister, Patricia (Robert) Schaffhouser of Montour Falls, New York; one brother, Michael (Chela) Rupert of Brooksville, Florida; one aunt, Barbara Tomi of Webster, New York; two uncles, John Dudley of Hastings, New York, and Peter Dudley of Baldwinsville, New York; and his dog, Star. Preceding him in death were his mother and father; his sister, Christine Rupert; and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at Printy Funeral Home on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00am with visitation Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 4-7pm. Memorials may be directed to the family for an educational fund for his grandson.
