Marcia Lowell Lawson

Marcia Lowell Lawson, 77, of Carthage, passed away at Blessing Hospital in Quincy on Wednesday, March 02, 2016 at 12:25 P.M.

Marcia was born January 21, 1939, the daughter of Dr. Vivion and Mildred Thompson (Wilhoit) Lowell at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Dallas City High School in 1957 and then went on to become the first woman to earn her Bachelor's Degree in general agriculture and animal science at Western Illinois University in 1968. On July 28, 1979, she was united in marriage to Lyle Lawson at the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Marcia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage and a life member of the hospital auxiliary. Marcia was active in the Illinois 4-H program and did extensive volunteer work during her life. She was well known for her generosity and work with Memorial Hospital in providing outfits for newborns. She was the curator of the Show and Tell Doll House and Toy Museum in Carthage for many years.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Lyle, of Carthage; two step-sons, Lex Lawson of Basco and Mike (Tami) Lawson of Galesburg; daughter in law, Carol Lawson, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Katie Lawson, all of Colchester; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and first husband, Lee Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon with family meeting friends from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the Children's Clothes Closet of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage, Kibbe Museum, or Tri-State Family Services in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
