Marilyn Rees Obituary

Marilyn A. “Molly” (Price) Rees died Friday, March 22, 2024, in the home of her grandson Ryan Williams in Springfield, Illinois.

Marilyn was born August 8, 1940, to Samuel and Evelyn (Martin) Price in Quincy, Illinois. She was united in marriage on May 31, 1958, with Richard L. “Dick” Rees.

Marilyn worked at Motorola in Quincy before the family moved to Edina, Missouri, where she helped Dick run a farm supply store. In 1974, they moved to Carthage, Illinois, for Dick’s job. Shortly afterwards Marilyn began working at Methode in Carthage until her retirement.

Marilyn was an avid Peanuts collector, but her greatest passion was spending time with family and friends. The house that Marilyn and Dick lived in for over 40 years was the gathering site for holidays for both the Rees and Price families—and anyone who just wanted to join in on the festivities. Everyone was welcome. Those gatherings were filled with food, laughter, music and the din of everyone playing games—especially Aggravation (or as everyone called it, Marbles).

Marilyn and Dick also spent endless time visiting and going to extracurricular activities with their grand- and great-grandkids, spending many weekends at hockey games and dance recitals.

In her retirement Marilyn was part of a card group, widows’ group and her very favorite Chicken Night at Basco.

Marilyn is survived by two daughters Donna Rees of Springfield, Illinois, and Tammy Rees (Melissa “T” Congleton) of Lansing, Michigan; one grandson Ryan M. (Christal) Williams; one granddaughter Amanda (Kyle) Szugye of Lebanon, Illinois; one great-grandson LCPL Ryan W. (Kasie) Williams and one great-granddaughter Lexi Williams; and one sister, Vicki (Kermit) Hahn of Palm Bay, Florida. Marilyn is also survived by her great friend and neighbor Doris Todd—and the Todd family who considered her part of their clan.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, brothers Marvin, Sammy, and Ray, and sisters Bonnie, Shirley, Anna Marie and Frances Rita. Marilyn also lost her special friend Rosie Pilkington earlier this year.

Marilyn had a big heart and kind soul and will be greatly missed.
