Mary Anne Congdon

Mary Anne Congdon, 78, of Hamilton, passed away at 5:11 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Mary Anne was born December 9, 1942, the daughter of Max R.a nd Ruby H. (Harland) Shipplett in Galesburg, Illinois.  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1961, received her bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in 1965 and her Master’s in 1970, also from Western.  On February 20, 1970, she was united in marriage to Daniel R. Congdon at the Abingdon Congregational Church.  He survives.  Mary Anne taught at Hamilton Elementary School for over 30 years.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hamilton.

Mary Anne is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Congdon, of Hamilton; a son, Timothy (Amanda) Congdon; grandchildren, Lyric, Elizabeth and Gavin; their mother, Erin Whaley; her brothers, Carroll and Gary (Sharon) Shipplett and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce and a brother, Michael.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Hamilton with burial to follow in the Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois.  Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in Hamilton.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.­
