Matthew Ernest “Grumo” Leroy, 59, of Hamilton, passed away at his home early Friday morning, March 26, 2021 at 1:30 AM.

Matthew was born January 30, 1962, the son of William E. and Fae M. (McClinthen) Leroy in Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from Hamilton High School and went on to attend Indian Hills and Southeastern Community Colleges. On November 2, 1985, he was united in marriage to Dawn “Hootie” Waddell in Hamilton. Matthew had been a supervisor at Methode Electronics in Carthage for thirty-two years. He loved spending time on the river with his family and friends at their cabin and on canoe trips. He was always the life of the party and could befriend anyone. He called everyone “bub” and never knew a stranger. Matthew had a contagious laugh and loved bantering back and forth with the love of his life, Dawn. He couldn’t be trusted in a game of “Ship, Captain, Crew” and enjoyed B-list Romantic Comedies and the Friday movies. He was goofy and loved giving people a hard time. He loved his many dogs over the years, but he especially loved being a dad and grandpa.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Dawn, of Hamilton; daughter, Katherine M. Leroy of Keokuk; son, Daniel E. (Jordan) Leroy of Keokuk; grandchildren, Justin Tinder, Jr. and FaeAnn Leroy and one on the way in July.; two brothers, Joseph Leroy and Bill (Mindy) Leroy of Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Debbie Murray of Warsaw, Lori Waddell of Burnside, Crystal (Mike) Doyle of Carthage and Donna (Bob) Harmon of Warsaw; brothers-in-law, Darwin Waddell of Burnside and Johnnie (Judy) Waddell of Kahoka; nineteen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Rachelle Leroy.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Friday evening, April 2, 2021, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Blessing Hospice. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
