Nancy Gabel

Nancy Gabel, 84, of North Ft. Myers, Florida, formally of Elvaston, Illinois passed away at

Hope Hospice House at 3:30 AM, March 26, 2021.

Nancy was born September 22, 1936 the daughter of Ernest E. Leroy and Grace V. (Peters) Leroy.

She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1954. Nancy married William L. Gabel on

February 13, 1955.

Nancy worked for Security State Bank, Gabel Grain and Fertilizer, and Gilbert, Wallace, & Stewart

CPA Firm.

Nancy enjoyed people and finding out about their families. She tried to make friends with whomever

she came in contact with. During the last several years of her life, her contacts were mainly from hospital stays, Rehab Centers, or Hospice. She made friends with the medical staff that cared for her. Her efforts to learn about her caretaker’s children, grandchildren, and pets never went unnoticed.  The highlight of Nancy’s life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, William, of North Ft. Myers, children, Sherri L (Robert) McHugh,

Andover, IL., Diana L. Gabel, Punta Gorda, FL, and William R. Gabel of North Ft. Myers.

Grandchildren, Dustin M. Tweedell, William D. (Andrea) Tweedell, Nicole McHugh (DeWanda Underwood), and Gabe McHugh.

Great grandchildren, Sophia McHugh, Madison H. Tweedell, Reece C. Tweedell, and Anna Lucille

Tweedell.

Robert and Marcia Stewart, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law.

Nancy is preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Renee Gabel, her parents, Ernest & Grace Leroy,

Her sisters Alice Laws, and Jean Luft, and brother, William Leroy.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday May 22, 2021 at the Elvaston Cemetery.

Memorials in Nancy’s memory are to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or PAWS Pet Foundation.
