Opal Irene (Harris) Morrow

Opal Irene (Harris) French Morrow, 98, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of Basco, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at her home in Rockford.

Opal was born on July 5, 1922, in Bear Creek Township, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Lela Claire (Flemming) Harris. On December 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Kenneth French in Kahoka, Missouri. After his passing, she was united in marriage to Gail Morrow on December 20, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death.

Opal worked in factories for most of her career, soldering electronics for major companies. After retirement, Opal spent much of her time finishing puzzles, solving crosswords and crocheting. She enjoyed her plants and loved her dogs. She loved her family dearly and was instrumental in raising her granddaughter.

Opal is survived by two grandchildren: Jackqueline Rhoades of Rockford, Illinois, and Brandon French of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren: Alisha Rhoades, Shannon Joslin and Andrew Rhoades, all of Rockford; four great-great-grandchildren: Matthew Farra, Mickayla Joslin, Emilee Bogard and Erika Bogard, all of Rockford; her step-daughter Maureen Morrow-Johnson of Meridian, Mississippi; three step-grandchildren: Anthony Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson and Piper Brantley; and many other family members.

Opal is preceded in death by her husbands Kenneth and Gail, two sons: Lonnie Dean French and Gail Gene Morrow, her brother Mike Harris and her parents.

Opal’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 1 pm on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, Illinois. Burial will follow at South Cemetery in Basco, Illinois.
