Richard Lunt Obituary

RICHARD G “DICK” LUNT, 71 lifelong resident of Carthage passed away Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 in Carthage at Memorial Hospital due to several health issues.

Dick was born on June 17th, 1947 in Keokuk, IA the son of Frances and Leota (Sparrow) Lunt.  He graduated from Carthage High School in 1965, also attended Gem City business college in Quincy. 

Dick was an agent for Huston Insurance and later an independent agent for many years for Shelter Insurance.  He served as Treasurer for the city of Carthage for approximately 40 years.  He also was the Treasurer for the Hancock Public Building Commission and a process server for the court system.  He became an auctioneer following the footsteps of his father and grandfather (Walter Lunt). 

Dick was a retired volunteer member of the Carthage Fire Department, charter member of the Carthage Eagles Club, member and past president of the Carthage Golf Club, past member of the Carthage Jaycees and was of Methodist faith.

Along with enjoying his family, Dick was an excellent pool player, played many rounds of golf (and kept track of EVERYONE’S score in the group whether he was appointed to do so or not), he was an avid card player and enjoyed the game of cribbage.

Dick and Linda Boyle were married June 19, 1965 and the parents of Jason Lunt and Denise (Aaron) Speer (grandsons Cole and Caleb).  On April 15, 1981 Dick married Kathryn (Katey Campbell) and she is the mother of 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Tanna (Joel) Ellefritz (Travis & Lauren Ellefritz (Maya & Reid), (Dustin Ellefritz) & (Kaci (Johnny) Barth (Ryker)).  Tiana (Bill) Kirby, (Kyle, Levi & Billie Kaitlyn Kirby).  Rod (Pam) Campbell (Brooke (Josh) McKay (Tyson & Liam), (Brittany (Tim) Muszynski (Kennedy & Campbell), (Bali (Cody) Carson), (Bradee Campbell).

Dick is also survived by a sister, Jearlyn (Darrell) Plumley, brother-in-law Tom Dye, sister-in-law Shirley Manning, one aunt Erma Hickey along with many cousins, nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Rogene Dye, 2 sisters-in-law Charlotte Laffey & Sharon Fink, 2 brothers-in-law John Laffey & John Manning along with many aunts and uncles.                                                                                     

A Celebration of Life will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Family will meet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either the Carthage Golf Club or the Carthage Eagles Club.

Anyone that knew Dick, knows his theory was that proper attire to any event is blue jeans and a golf shirt!
