Richard Smith

Richard Smith, 90, of Carthage, passed away at 12:25 PM Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Oakview Care Center in Burlington, Iowa.

Richard was born April 29, 1931, the son of Merlin Roscoe and Pauline (Butler) Smith in Plymouth, Illinois.  He served in the United States Army from 1952 until his Honorable Discharge in 1954.  In 1953, he was united in marriage to Louise Miller at the First Christian Church in Carthage. She survives. Richard was a life-long truck driver and farmer.  He was a member of the American Legion and First Christian Church in Carthage.

Richard is survived by his wife, Louise, of Burlington; a daughter, Jeana (Miles) Schroder of Danville, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Anthony Schroder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brent Smith; a brother, Robert Lee Smith; and a sister, Inez Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday morning, April 11, 2022, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Carthage.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of the arrangements.
