Shay Lynn Darnell

Shay Lynn Darnell, 46, of Quincy, passed away at 10:17 AM Saturday, December 11, 2021, at her home in Quincy.

Shay was born June 17, 1975, the daughter of Larry Ray and Susan Diane (Reneau) Sewell in Carroll, Iowa.  She was a stand-out volleyball player at Hamilton High School, where she graduated in 1993. She later went on to attain her associate degree from Southeastern College.  She had also received her C.N.A. and E.M.T. certifications. On June 26, 2004, she was united in marriage to husband, Sam Darnell. Shay had been very active in 4-H and the Rainbow Girls as a child.  She loved to cook, bake, and spend her time at her son’s sporting events rooting him on, as she was a proud self-proclaimed “sports mama.” Shay was also often known for her contagious laugh and love of conversation, which she passed onto her daughter.

Shay is survived by her husband, Sam, of Quincy; her daughter, Morgan Lewis of Quincy; her son, Ryan Darnell of Quincy; her father, Larry Sewell of Hamilton; a brother, Justin Sewell of Hamilton; a sister, Tara Baker of Hamilton; and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Susan Sewell in April of this year; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Family will meet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday evening, December 27, 2021, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. Memorials may be directed to the family Shay Darnell for her children.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
