Stuart Kelly Obituary

Stuart W. Kelly, 89, of Quincy, formerly of Hamilton, passed away at 11:02 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2018, at his home in Quincy.

 Stuart was born October 28, 1928, the son of Ward and Maude (Watson) Kelly in Burlington, Iowa.  He attended Biggsville High School graduating in 1946.  On March 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hartweg at the Ferris Christian Church.  She survives.  In 1951 he entered the Illinois National Guard and was called into active duty in the U.S. Army in 1952 He served overseas in the Korean War.  That is where his life-long missionary service also began.  In his free time in Korea he began helping with the Korean Children’s Orphanage.  He received his Honorable Discharge as a Corporal in 1954.  He was a member of the 2015 Honor Flight.  Stuart farmed all his life and also sold and constructed agricultural buildings.  Stuart was a full time missionary in many ministries.  He was pivotal in bringing the LaMoine Christian Service Camp to Tennessee, Illinois and volunteered as the canteen manager, dorm dad and camp missionary for many years.  He served on the board of the Illini Children’s Home and for 35 years served Christianville in Haiti as farm manager and on the board of directors.  He was able to help many other Haitian ministries in that capacity as well.   He also regularly attended the Friday morning Dairy Queen prayer group.  Stuart was a generous man giving to anyone in need and a neighbor that was always willing to help with anything.

 Stuart is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Quincy; four children, Clifford (Judy) Kelly of Charles City, Iowa, Cristine (Tom) Anders of Paxton, Illinois, David (Mary) Kelly of Lafayette, Colorado and Margaret (Brent) Roe of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Andy (Jennifer) Kelly, Aaron (Katie) Kelly, Anne Lappe, Sarah (Brian) DeNeal, Seth (Amber) Anders, Caleb Anders, Adam (Faith) Kelly, Amanda (Peter) Strutton and Zachary Kelly; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Roger Kelly of Biggsville, Illinois; one sister, Laura Beattie of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Gene Hartweg of Carthage; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Micah Anders; one brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning, September 29, 2018, at the Ferris Christian Church in Ferris with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.  Memorials may be directed to the Ferris Christian Church, Christianville, LaMoine Christian Service Camp or Blessing Hospice.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
