Sylvia St. Clair Obituary

Sylvia Margarette (Hitz) St. Clair, 92, of Carthage, passed away quickly and peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Carthage Memorial Hospital to be with her Lord.

Sylvia was born on the family farm in rural Plymouth, Illinois, the only child to Harvey and Flossie (Lee) Hitz on October 25, 1928.  She attended St. Mary’s School, north of Plymouth, and graduated from Carthage High School in 1946.

On November 24, 1946, she married the love of her life, Earl St. Clair at St. Mary’s Baptist Church.  They farmed together for many years.  After farming, she worked at the Carthage Bowling Alley, Newsland Bookstore, and Ben Franklin in Carthage.  If she didn’t know a person, she figured out who they had in common as friends and family.

She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in rural Plymouth and was a member of the VFW Ladies auxiliary for a time. Sylvia has lived at Hickory Grove North Assisted Living since it opened.  The care given there helped her live a happy life all the way to the end.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; in-laws; and many first and second cousins.  Surviving her are daughter, Shirley (David) Jordan of Rock City, Illinois; son, Randy St. Clair of Marion, Illinois; grandsons, Aaron (Laura) St. Clair of Quincy, Jeremy (Meg) Jordan of Rock City, Kevin (Kaylee) Jordan of Winfield, Illinois, Adam St. Clair and ten great grandchildren; and cousin Junior (Pat) Hitz of Carthage.

Private services are planned due to COVID.  A Celebration of Life is possible in the spring.  Memorials may be directed to the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church or Hickory Grove Assisted Living.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
