Wanda Gooding Obituary

Wanda Lee Gooding passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2021 at Sunset Home in Quincy, Illinois.  Wanda was born on March 13, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Earnest Samuel McCants, Sr and Pearl Marie Sparrow. Her father died in 1931, and she was raised from the age of four by her mother and step-father, Henry Nick Kinman in LaPrairie, Illinois.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Otto Gooding on March 17, 1946 in Quincy, Illinois. Wayne preceded her in death on May 27, 2017. They lived the first 23 years of their married life on a farm south of Bowen where they raised six children.

Wanda was a home-maker and mother who deeply loved her home and family, and devoted mate to her beloved husband. In 1980, after her family was grown, she became a real estate agent and then a real estate broker who owned and operated Cardinal Real Estate in Bowen, until her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed her many family picture albums, country and gospel music, baking, sewing, crocheting, oil painting word search and jig-saw puzzles. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.

Wanda is survived by five children; David Wayne (Betty) Gooding, Patricia Ann (Richard) Thomas, Barbara Joan (Jerry) Neill, Ricky Dale (Patricia) Gooding and Paula Kay (Monti) Mongrieg; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Hardy; three brothers, Nick, Bud and Glen Kinman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, her husband, three sons; Richard Wayne and Gerald Lee Gooding who died in infancy and Stephen Paul who died in 2015. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest Samuel McCants, Jr, Glen Earl McCants who died in infancy and two sisters, Betty Lou McCants who died in infancy and Elizabeth Topper; one grandson, Donnie McMillen and one great grandson, Alexander Neill.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to the caring individuals at Sunset Home (especially Jessie and Amy) in Quincy, who provided such wonderful loving care to Wanda.

A private family celebration of life service will be held at a later date with burial at the Old Ebenezer Cemetery in Houston Township, Adams County, Illinois.
