William F. “Bill” Griffiths, 91, of Carthage, passed away at 11:40 PM Friday, March 26, 2021, at Silver Maple Care Center in Carthage.
Bill was born November 13, 1929, the son of Floyd and Marie (Ahrens) Griffiths in Ferris, Illinois. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1947 and went on to attain his Agriculture Education degree from the University of Illinois. After college he served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. On January 30, 1955 he was united in marriage to Carolyne J. Carnes in Augusta, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2011. Bill was a lifelong farmer retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk and Gideon’s International.
Bill is survived by his children, Gregory (Lea) Griffiths of Port Byron, Illinois, David (Isak) Griffiths of Champaign, Illinois, Dawn Griffiths of Silver Springs, Maryland and Sarah (Ed) Lewis of Moberly, Missouri; grandchildren, Drew Griffiths, Callie Griffiths, Caleb (Moriah) Lewis, Joshua (Rachel) Lewis, Naomi (Jared) Rivera, Anna (Cody) Campbell, Breana Griffiths, Trae Griffiths and James Griffiths; and great grandchildren, Zyla Lewis, Malachi Rivera and Lenna Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyne; and two sisters, Betty Ippensen and Maryann Griffiths.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. afternoon Thursday, April 1, 2021, at the Thornber Cemetery near Powellton with military rites provided by the Hancock County Honor Guard and United States Air Force. Memorials may be directed to Gideon’s International. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
