Karen Larson Obituary

Karen Sue (Warner) Larson, 74, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away gracefully and peacefully on December 18, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born to Roy Dale Warner and Gertrude Louise (McMahill) Warner of Monmouth, Illinois, on March 14, 1944.

After graduating from Monmouth High School in 1962, she worked as a dental assistant for several years before her marriage to David Ross Larson on April 25, 1970.

An avid nature lover, Karen loved to spend time on the farm feeding birds, tending to her flowers and trees, taking walks, refinishing old furniture, and rescuing the occasional stray cat. She also loved learning new things about the world, reading books, and working crossword puzzles. Having grown up with little luxury, Karen refused to let anything go to waste if she could help it. She had a knack for transforming broken objects into treasures and for comforting others—even the passing stranger—with her kindness and sweet nature. She was a beautiful, courageous, and truly selfless woman, who was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be sorely missed.

Karen is survived by her husband; twin sons Shawn Larson of Carthage and Shay Larson of Macomb, Illinois; her daughter Shannon Larson and son-in-law Mostafa Tanhayi Ahari of Bloomington, IN; sister Aldeene "Deanie" McMaster and brother-in-law Tom McMaster of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law Susie Warner of Corona, California; aunts Mildred Warner and Doris (Warner) Sanberg of Kirkwood and Monmouth, Illinois, respectively; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her beloved cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her sister Connie (Warner) Hughes; and her brother William "Billy" Warner.

Karen's visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, Illinois.
