Lucille Irene Gerhardt, 75, of Sutter, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Lucille was born on March 7, 1943, in Golden, Illinois, the daughter of K. D. and Pauline (Hendrichs) Gooding. On January 14, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert Gene Gerhardt. He survives.
A long-time resident of Sutter, Lucille was well-known in the area for the delicious cakes she made for all occasions, and even judged cakes in the Adams County Fair. She made her first wedding cake when she was seventeen, and everyone wanted to know the recipe for her famous frosting. She and her husband served as a youth leader in Tioga and Sutter for fifteen years, and she also served on the Warsaw High School advisory board. One of Lucille’s greatest achievements in life was serving as a foster parent for 25 years to over one hundred children, mostly troubled teen boys.
Lucille is survived by her husband Robert Gene Gerhardt of Sutter; four sons: Robert (Cheryl) Gerhardt of Mendon, Illinois; Rick (Teresa) Gerhardt of Sutter; Rueben Gerhardt of Sutter; and Roger Gerhardt of Sutter; four daughters: Renee (Jeff) Connor of Tennessee, Illinois; Rachel Gerhardt of Hannibal, Missouri; Rebekka (Shane) Sigmund of Hamilton; and Rita Gerhardt of Hamilton; two daughters-in-law: Kathy Gerhardt of Hamilton, Illinois; Gena Palmer of Wayland, MO; sixteen grandchildren: Jeremiah (Dusty) Gerhardt, Monette Gerhardt, Johnathan Gerhardt, Joezf Gerhardt, Alyssa (Joe) Craven, Aaron Gerhardt, Alayna Gerhardt, Alicyn Gerhardt, Ricky Gerhardt, Addyson Gerhardt, Brayden Gerhardt, Ryan (Megan) Brotherton, Ashley Brotherton, Cole Connor, Eric Sigmund and Thea Sigmund; three great-granddaughters: Olivia Brotherton, Charlotte Brotherton and Haizel Jackson; four brothers: Dean Gooding of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jim (Jo) Gooding of Loraine, Illinois; Lyle (Jolane) Gooding of Mendon, Illinois; and Rodney (Sharon) Gooding of Mendon, Illinois; two sisters: Linda (Mike) Albright of Phoenix, Arizona; and Judie (Mike) Agard of Rock Hills, South Carolina. Other survivors include over one hundred foster children including Chuck West, Phil DeSilva and Jeri Roby; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lucille is preceded in death by her son Randy Gerhardt, her sisters Joyce Bunting and Pat Barr and foster son Scott Kelly.
Lucille’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 10 am on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow in Tioga. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 4 to 7 pm.
