Neil Allen Pfeiferling, 84, of Hamilton, passed away at 6:27 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Neil was born February 21, 1936, the son of Carl W. and Ruth E. (Martin) Pfeiferling in Keokuk, Iowa.
In 1962, he was united in marriage to Darlene Johnson at Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Carthage, Illinois. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hamilton. Neil attended Prairie and Basco Schools as a youth, and graduated from Hamilton in 1954. He participated in basketball and track, winning shot and discus his senior year. Neil served in the armed forces during 1955-56. He enjoyed playing softball in Basco for many years too. He also loved going to sales, collecting John Deere yellow and green, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He truly enjoyed visiting with his brother, grandchildren, and close friends.
Neil loved sports! He enjoyed coaching his kids and grandkids in little league, pony league, YMCA basketball, and football. He and his brother Carl, along with their wives, sat in the same place at every Hamilton High School basketball game for over 50 years. His fondest memory was the Hamilton Girls 2018 Regional Basketball win and celebrating on the court with his granddaughter Kailee Pfeiferling.
Neil is survived by his wife Darlene, of Hamilton; two sons, Steve (Leigh Ann) Pfeiferling and Scott (Kim) Pfeiferling of Hamilton, IL; one brother Carl (June)Pfeiferling; and his grandchildren Cortney (Joey) Mueller of Keokuk, Kailee, Dane, Addison, and Laney Pfeiferling all of Hamilton, IL; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Neil’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 11 am on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Military honors will be render by the Hancock County Honor Guard and the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. At Neil’s request there will be no visitation.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Hamilton or the Neil Pfeiferling Memorial Scholarship Fund.
